Property and Casualty Insurance: Connecting Our World to Yours
The Career Connections Program promotes careers in insurance. The program is an education strategy designed to heighten awareness among junior high, high school and post-secondary students about the multitude of career opportunities available in the insurance industry. As well, the program aims to improve the understanding of insurance and illustrate its role in society. The two-part program consists of:
- Career Connections: Increasing awareness and understanding of the various professional employment opportunities in the insurance industry among high school and post-secondary students. By enhancing the perception of insurance as a professional career, we can encourage a greater number of candidates to choose insurance as a career, thereby working to fulfill industry need for new talent. The Career Connections Job Site is part of this initiative.
- For Teachers: Curriculum Connections: Building an understanding of insurance principles among junior high and high school students by developing curriculum-specific lesson plans for teachers of business, law, math, family studies and life skills that address insurance and insurance related principles such as risk, ethics and personal and social responsibility. Teachers are encouraged to order our free resources, look for us at various teacher conferences, and request a teacher presentation or seminar for your department or board.
- For Teachers: Classroom Presentations: Through the Insurance Institute’s Career Connections program, industry professionals act as ‘Ambassadors’ for the home, business and auto insurance industry. These volunteer Ambassadors share their career and education journey with youth through presentations in the classroom and participation in career fairs. Ambassadors introduce your students to the multitude of careers available in this non-traditional and little-known sector, and share their enthusiasm for a $30 billion industry which continues to grow and change.
- For Industry Professionals: Become an Ambassador: To drive the program, the Institute’s Career Connections team is supported by industry professionals who act as Ambassadors on behalf of the insurance industry. Across Canada, Ambassadors motivate and inspire youth to pursue careers in the industry by presenting their career and education journey in classroom presentations and career events.
