Insurance students from BCIT to compete in the final round of the 2017 Spencer-RIMS Risk Management Challenge

For the first time ever, a Canadian team will compete in the Spencer-RIMS Risk Management Challenge at the RIMS conference in Philadelphia this April

Over the course of this 8 month competition, 27 teams of undergrads including a single Canadian team from BCIT, had been tasked with developing and presenting a comprehensive risk management program based on a case study provided to them. After being rigorously judged by a team of risk management professionals – the top 9 teams have been invited to present their recommendations at the conference next month and the top 3 teams will be awarded with cash prizes.

The Spencer-RIMS Risk Management Challenge was created in 2011 in order to provide risk managements students an international platform to showcase their knowledge. This is the second time BCIT students have entered the competition but the first time they’ve been invited to present at the conference.

BCIT’s General Insurance and Risk Management Program allows students to obtain a diploma, their CRM designation and 8 out of 10 CIP courses in their first 2 years, with the opportunity to then continue their students for an additional year in order to obtain an undergraduate degree in business.
