Feed the Minds of Youth

Each year on the first Wednesday in November, employees across Canada will introduce their grade nine children to their places of work during The Learning Partnership’s annual Take Our Kids to Work Day.

This event provides grade nine students the opportunity to be explore the career of a parent or guardian as well as learn about what different industries and companies have to offer. To complement this event, the Insurance Institute hosts Feed The Minds of Youth events across Canada. In 2021, Feed the Minds of Youth will take place on Wednesday, November 3rd and will be a 100% virtual experience.

FTMOY 2021 promises to be an engaging and interactive way to showcase how insurance works, the vital role it plays in the world around us, and the multitude of rewarding career paths in our industry ecosystem.

This event:

  • Offers ease and flexibility with a wide array of programming options to choose from

  • Could either stand alone as an event or easily compliment other activities that you have planned at your (virtual) workplace

  • Will be meaningful, enjoyable and cater to the needs of grade nine students

  • Aligns to the mission and expectations associated with Take our Kids to Work Day

  • Is available at no-cost, can be done from anywhere, and molds well to the realities of remote working and learning

A few more details:

Take Our Kids to Work Day and Feed the Minds of Youth will take place on Wednesday, November 3rd, 2021.  We are planning a ‘live’ virtual agenda that will run twice  throughout the day to accommodate multiple time zones and participant schedules.   This will be rounded out with on-demand programming options so that students (along with input from their parents/guardians, schools, and your organization) can choose what they would like to take part in.

 Feed the Minds of Youth

Feed the Minds of Youth 2021 - A Successful Tradition Continues!

On November 3rd, 2021 Career Connections, local Insurance Institutes and Chapters, and our industry partners hosted grade 9 students for Virtual Feed the Minds of Youth events (as a part of the Learning Partnership’s annual Take Our Kids to Work Day) at over 90 sites across Canada. Feed the Minds of Youth represents a tremendous opportunity to plant seeds and introduce high school students to all that a career in the insurance industry has to offer.

The combined efforts of everyone supporting this day resulted in over 200 grade 9 students being reached as they learned about careers in the insurance industry. We couldn’t be more thankful for the tremendous support of everyone who was involved in putting together these events and are pleased to report yet another round of extremely positive feedback from participants, parents, and partners. Please see below for some highlights!

In addition, this year we ran a week long National Competition alongside FTMOY Day with our partners at ChatterHigh to engage all high school students across the country to learn about insurance where we saw 39 schools, 81 students answering over 4000 questions combined! Over a dozen prizes were awarded for that competition as well so we saw a lot of high school engagement for the week.

A big thanks to our partners, colleagues, and Ambassadors who helped to make this year’s Feed the Minds of Youth event one of our very best yet! Your support is invaluable as is the impact this one day event has on students across the nation in helping them understand the role and importance of insurance as a career. We look forward continuing this tradition and hope to see you next year
